November 2008
Hydraulics and Pneumatics Exhibition, Moscow.
We had a very successful show with many customers interested to learn about "Electric Cylinder" technology and all the benefits compared with hydraulic and pneumatic. No maintenance, better accuracy, very clean, no oil contamination problems, no hoses to wear out, low energy consumption - since electric actuators only take energy when they need it and no costly air to be produced by expensive compressors which tend to leak and waste energy.
Therefore the extra initial purchase cost is generally paid back in under 12 months due to energy saving. Also this green technology gives a reduced carbon footprint. whilst offering a very quiet operation.

Process and Packaging Machinery Exhibition (PPMA)
Process and Packaging Machinery Exhibition (PPMA) was a huge success with over 80 new clients visiting the stand at the NEC, Birmingham. The feedback from Multi-National end users was very positive. They now understood the advantages of Electric Cylinders / Actuators over hydraulic / pneumatic linear motion i.e. MINIMUM energy costs, ZERO maintenance and LONG LIFE.
They are now challenging their OEM's to quote for ALL Electric machines. The Machine builders also now believe it is wise to quote an Electric Option to end clients for the same reasons. There is a definite shift in the market towards Electric Linear Motion - Roller Screw Variety.

The launch of Progressive Technologies Russia
Exlar Linear Actuators at the Military Exhibition in Moscow was a great success with much interest
from guests in the replacement of traditional hydraulic and pneumatic motion systems.
Simulation, Robotics and testing systems were the main topics of discussion. Exlar Roller Screw technology can have a 3 micro metre positional accuracy and has passed arduous Military testing for;
Vibration MIL-STD-167B,
Mechanical Shock tested to MIL-S-901D = 750G-force,
Long Life Endurance testing, plus harsh environments (IP67).

Exlar Roller Screw Actuators demonstrated on a Process Control Valve at the stand of company PYCT-95.
Explosion proof EL series available.
Hand wheel option. 0.1mm accuracy, high forces, high speeds, wide temperature range.

April 22nd to 24th - Drives & Controls Exhibition, NEC
Olsen Engineering launches Exlar range of Servo Electric Roller Screw Actuator, which give up to 15 times the life of equivalent ball screw linear motion solutions.
The main advantages over current hydraulic, pneumatic and ball screw linear motion control technology is as follows:-
1) There is virtually no maintenance - once per year oil the roller screw (usually less - depending on duty cycle) - which takes approx 20 mins.
2) Exlar life cycle is approx 15 times more than equivalent ball screw technology, including IP65 or IP67 option.
3) The response time is very fast and the torque capacity is extra strong 1.5m/s and up to 28 tonnes in a very compact frame.
4) There are no fire resistance fluids required or large oil tanks and complicated pumping systems, it is environmentally a clean solution.
5) The electric drive system is very quiet vs. pneumatic - health and safety.
6) This system of motion control is energy efficient (85-90%) vs. hydraulic (50%) or pneumatic (depends on holes).
7) We have very accurate positioning vs. other systems typically 3um, can be less.
8) Exlar has the flexibility to be connected to any other 3rd party positioner a client may decide he wants to use.
